It’s been so long since I posted anything, the thought of trying to catch up is overwhelming! So, rather than write a novel, I’m starting small and saying hello to anyone left out there that’s still reading.
First, let me share our big news, and part of the reason why I was absent in the fall: we’re expecting our second son! We’re thrilled that Tice will have a little brother. I’m due at the end of June, which could mean the beginning of July if he’s late like his big brother. I’m feeling pretty good now, but the first trimester was rough. I had a lot more nausea and it started much sooner than it did with Tice. I’m so glad to be past that stage–I was very unproductive! Now, I’m trying to catch up, and the days are just flying by.
The other recent life-changing event was on the opposite end of the spectrum. Harper’s mother passed away a few days before Christmas. It was very unexpected, so in a way it doesn’t seem real yet. It hits me in little ways each day. I’ll capture a cute video of Tice on my phone and prepare to send it to my mom and Donna, and then I remember that she’s gone. Or I’ll read something in the paper that I know she would have mentioned. She was such a daily part of our lives, and it just feels incomplete without her. We miss her so much. It breaks my heart that our next son won’t meet her in this life, so I can’t even think about that right now. But I can be thankful that Tice has so many memories with her.
Right now, I’m trying to focus on getting things done. I have many projects that should have been done in the fall. I’ve been bad about not taking “before” pictures when beginning something new, but yesterday I managed to get a before shot of a chair I’m working on. I’m using it as a sort of test piece for a larger project because they’re both oak, and I’m thinking the paint technique I want to use will be similar on both pieces. I’ll show more as I finish up–right now I’m still trying to get all the upholstery tacks out of the chair!
I hope your year is off to a good start! I’ll be back soon with more updates.
